What is AfricaPay Tanzania?

AfricaPay Tanzania is a website dedicated to providing free and accurate information on wages, working conditions, minimum wages and labour law. It is focused on employers in Tanzania.

Who can use AfricaPay Tanzania?

Everybody. It is an open website that is easy to use. Employers, in particular, find it helpful to have up-to-date information on salaries and workplace laws.

Is AfricaPay Tanzania only online?

No. The AfricaPay Tanzania campaign also aims to reach those with limited internet access through pamphlets, media campaigns and open discussion groups. In addition, the campaign wishes to bring together employers, employees, government representatives, unionists and the media to discuss socio-economic issues in Tanzania.

Who is involved with AfricaPay Tanzania?

AfricaPay Tanzania has partnered with the Association of Tanzanian Employers (ATE) and the Trade Union Congress of Tanzania (TUCTA).

How does AfricaPay Tanzania collect its salary data?

Visitors to the site are encouraged to fill out the Salary Survey. It only takes 10 minutes, and information from this survey is then gathered as data which reflects wages, as well as working conditions, for Tanzanian workers. The more surveys are filled out, the more wage data can be collected.

Additionally, each year one winner from Tanzania who takes the survey will receive a cash prize of a minimum wage – the equivalent of one month’s minimum wage salary. Click here for further details.

Is AfricaPay Tanzania connected to an organisation?

Yes. AfricaPay Tanzania is part of the international Wage Indicator Foundation, which is based in The Netherlands. The Wage Indicator Foundation currently runs websites in 60 countries, including South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Its aim is to provide wage transparency and useful labour advice. The Wage Indicator Foundation works with trade unions, government representatives, the scientific community and the media in order to provide a free and fair service.
